LATIN PERCUSSION CLASSES

Learn to play with flow: salsa, rumba, son, and much more!

In our Latin percussion classes, you'll work on the technique of the genre's essential instruments: congas, bongos, timbales/pailas, claves, maracas, güiro, bells, and other supporting instruments. We'll delve into the main rhythms and styles that make up the language of Afro-Caribbean music: son, mambo, cha-cha-chá, guaguancó, salsa, timba, merengue, cumbia, bolero, danzón, and more.

 

In class we will develop:

 

  • Fundamental technique and applied technique for each instrument.

  • Independence, rhythmic control and dynamics.

  • Traditional patterns, tumbadoras patterns, cascara, martillo, mambo bell , etc.

  • Rhythmic reading and notation for Afro-Caribbean percussion.

  • Ensemble performance and groove construction.

  • Improvisation resources and stylistic variations according to genre.

  • Understanding the Afro-Caribbean cultural and musical context.

 

The classes are held in a group format, creating an authentic Latin percussion ensemble , ideal for learning to play with others, developing musicality and enjoying the shared process.

 

Throughout the year you can participate in school activities such as dress rehearsals, weekend outings, school festivals and immersive trips to Senegal and Brazil, where you can continue to delve deeper into the roots of the rhythms we study.
