The timbau is one of the most representative percussion instruments of Salvador de Bahia, a key player in batucada groups and Brazilian popular celebrations. In this course, we explore its technique and its role within the ensemble, starting with traditional Timbalada patterns and adapting them to a modern ensemble approach accessible to all levels.
In the classes you will learn:

Traditional rhythms of Bahian percussion, such as samba-reggae, among other characteristic patterns of Salvador de Bahia.

Specific technique of the timbao: low and high strokes, dynamics and rhythmic variations.

Coordination, collective phrasing, accompaniment resources and group dynamics within the batucada.

Cultural and musical context of the rhythm, understanding its origin and its function within the Afro-Brazilian tradition.
The goal is to create a timbao circle, delving into both individual technique and collective interpretation within the group.
The classes are taught by Cra Rosa, a national reference in Brazilian percussion and a specialist in Bahian percussion.
Throughout the year you can participate in school activities such as dress rehearsals, weekend outings, school festivals and immersive trips to Senegal and Brazil.
