AFRO-BRAZILIAN PERCUSSION CLASSES
Sign up and learn with Cra Rosa, creator of the Tribal Baiano style
Regular classes at the TocArt school
In La Verneda, Barcelona 👉 Location
In Afro-Bahian Percussion classes, you will discover the power, depth, and rhythmic richness of Afro-Brazilian rhythms originating from Bahia. We will work with traditional and contemporary patterns characteristic of the African diaspora in Brazil, as well as their evolution into current musical styles.
You will learn rhythms such as Ijexá, Cabula, Congo, Congo de Ouro, and other genres characteristic of Salvador, fused to the contemporary language , combining instrumental technique, body awareness and understanding of the role of each instrument within the ensemble.
In class we will develop:
-
Specific technique of the instruments (atabaques, agbê, caxixi, turned drum...).
-
Afro-Bayan musical language: basic patterns, variations, accents and phrasing.
-
Sectional assembly and groove creation.
-
Interpretation, group dynamics and staging.
The classes are taught by Cra Rosa, a leading figure in the dissemination of Baiana Percussion in Europe and creator of the Baiana Tribal Percussion style.
As in the rest of the school's groups, you will also be part of an active community that holds events throughout the year: workshops, performances, dress rehearsals, meetings with other groups, and immersive trips to Brazil and other countries.
